The mission of the Home of the Brave is to reduce homelessness and to provide a guided transition back to civilian life for Delaware’s male and female military veterans. HOB provides transitional housing, food, and security as well as assistance in gaining employment, obtaining counseling and healthcare services, and locating affordable housing. HOB provides transportation as needed by resident veterans. HOB has achieved its goal when veterans successfully obtain jobs, permanent housing, and personal independence.
To that end, they provide
- A 15 bed facility for male veterans
- A separate 8 bed facility for female veterans and their children
- Separate kitchen and dining facilities for male and female veterans
- Individual case management
- Mental health counseling referrals
- Medical services referrals
- Substance abuse program referrals
- Vocational counseling
- VA benefits counseling
- Transportation to/from appointments
- Clothing assistance
- Household items upon discharge
The Home of the Brave is located just South of Milford on Route 1. It has been in operation since 1992. Many Delaware veterans, those having experienced temporary difficulty reintegrating into civilian life, have successfully utilized its facilities and services to get their lives back on track and productive.
